Avianca Express was founded in 2018 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Avianca Group. The airline was established to fly scheduled regional passenger services to secondary airports within Colombia. The fleet originally consisted of ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft. As part of Avianca's major restructuring in 2022, the ATRs were retired and replaced with a few aircraft of Avianca's mainline fleet. Currently Avianca Express operates Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.

Check in rules
At Avianca Express you can check in online at least 48 hours before the departure of your flight and 24 hours if you are traveling to or from the United States and Canada. You can do so from any device or in person at our kiosks or the counters at the airport. Keep in mind that you must be at the airport: 3 hours in advance for international flights, 2 hours in advance for domestic flights in Colombia and 1 hour and 30 minutes in advance for domestic flights in Ecuador. If you would like to request a special service, please show up an additional hour in advance to activate the service.

Avianca Express carry-on is a small piece of baggage with a maximum weight of 22 lb and dimensions not exceeding 22x14x10 in. (height, length, width), including wheels and handles, which must be placed in the overhead compartments of the aircraft. The maximum weight for checked baggage per passenger is: 23 kg in Economy Class and 32 kg in Business Class (applicable for XXL fare). Its dimensions must not exceed 158 linear cm (height + length + width).

Children under 2 years of age are considered infants or babies by Avianca Express. If the baby turns 2 years of age before or during the return date of the trip, he/she will be considered a child and must have a ticket with a seat assigned. An adult may fly with a maximum of 2 infants, whose tickets must be on the same reservation. If your baby needs a seat, you must buy a child (not infant) ticket, and he/she must fly in an approved infant seat with seat belt included.
