The airline was founded in 1984 as American Eagle Airlines. The name was later changed to Envoy Air but still operating under the American Eagle brand. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines with its headquarters in Irvine, Texas. The airline operates a large fleet of Embraer regional aircraft and serves a vast network of over 150 destinations. The main hubs are Dallas / Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare and Miami.
