The airline was founded in 1984 as American Eagle Airlines. The name was later changed to Envoy Air but still operating under the American Eagle brand. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Airlines with its headquarters in Irvine, Texas. The airline operates a large fleet of Embraer regional aircraft and serves a vast network of over 150 destinations. The main hubs are Dallas / Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare and Miami.

Passengers can online check-in. This opens 24 hours before departure and closes 45 minutes before scheduled departure. This may vary, however, depending on your route flying. It also offers airport check-in. Again, depending on your route flying, airport check-in will open between 4 hours and 45 minutes before departure.

Infants under two years of age may travel free of charge on the lap of a parent (of any age) or the lap of an accompanying adult aged 16 years or older traveling in the same cabin. We welcome infants from 2 days old, but infants up to 7 days old need to fill out a Passenger Health Care form before the flight.
