The DHC-6 Twin Otter was developed in the 1960s by de Havilland Canada and stayed in production until 1988. The final production model was the DHC-6-300 and in total 844 original Twin Otters were produced. In 2006, Viking Air acquired the production rights and tooling for the Twin Otter and developed a modernized version known as the series 400. The De Havilland Twin Otter is a 19 seat regional turboprop aircraft known for its rugged design. It is powered by two highly reliable PT6A engines. The aircraft can operate from very short runways and features a large side loading door, making it suitable for a wide range of missions.
