The Airbus A220-100 started life as the Bombardier CSeries CS100. The aircraft had its maiden flight in September 2013 and entered service with launch customer Swiss Global Air Lines in July 2016. The airliner is typically configured for 110 to 125 passengers in one or two classes and has a range of 3450nm (6390km). The fuselage is of light weight design and features a wide cross section allowing for wider seats and aisles. The wings are also mostly made of carbon composite materials and together with the highly efficient geared turbofan engines, the A220-100 has a low fuel consumption and reduced emissions. The A220s are assembled in Mirabel, Quebec and Mobile, Alabama.
