The Malaysia Airlines self-service check-in options are available to any e-ticket holder with a confirmed booking. Advance check-in can be done up to 48 hours before departure. Boarding gates close 20 minutes before flight departure time. Check-in Kiosks are available for two days and up to 60 minutes before departure. The Counter Check-in closing times for Malaysia Airlines flights are 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights; 60 minutes before departure for international flights.

Any bag whose linear dimensions (length + width + height) is between 158 and 204 cm is considered oversized. For Malaysia Airlines, an unaccompanied minor is a child who is five years old but not 15 years old and is not accompanied on the flight by their parents/guardians or another passenger aged 18 years or older. The airline offers an escort service for minors. This service must be requested when booking a ticket for a child for which the full adult fare is charged.

Children under two years of age (24 months) do not need a separate seat. However, one must inform Malaysia Airlines that you are traveling with an infant on your lap. Only one infant per adult is allowed per lap. Therefore, if one adult travels with more than one infant under two years of age, a separate seat must be purchased for each additional infant.
