The airline was originally founded in 1985 as AeroGal and was later acquired by Avianca Holdings and renamed Avianca Ecuador. The fleet is made up of A320 family aircraft operating scheduled domestic and international services. The main base is at Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport. Domestic routes serve all important airports on mainland Ecuador as well as the distant Galapagos Islands. International routes cover destinations in North, Central and South America.

Check in rules

Check-in can be done online (via the website or mobile app) or at the airport. Registration desks open three hours before departure and close 60 minutes before departure. Avianca’s Web Check-in allows you to check in between 24 hours and 2 hours before your flight departs.

Baggage

Each passenger is allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item. The maximum sum of all dimensions of carry-on hand luggage is 115 centimeters (lenght+width+height). For all destinations, the maximum checked baggage weight is 23 kg for Economy Class and for Business Class the maximum weight is 32 kg. For all destinations, the dimensions of your baggage cannot exceed 158 dimensional centimeters, equivalent to the sum of the external dimensions (height+length+width).

Unaccompanied minors

Children over the age of five can travel alone. All children traveling with Avianca alone between the ages of 5 and 11 must purchase this service. In addition, children between the ages of 5-14 years traveling to/from the USA must use the Unaccompanied Minor Service.

Infants

Infants are defined as children under two years of age. Infants younger than ten days old are not allowed on board. However, an infant under two years of age, traveling on an adult’s lap, is only required to pay 10% of the adult’s fare, plus the additional amount charged for security, fuel fees, and international taxes.

Pets

Pets can travel in the cabin with Avianca if they don't exceed 8 kg, not including their carrier. For pets traveling in the cabin, carriers must not exceed 41 cm x 30 cm x 20 cm. Each passenger may only travel with one carrier in addition to their regular carry-on luggage. Pets who exceed the maximum weight limit to travel in the cabin can be transported in the hold instead. To qualify for transport in the hold, animals must weigh a minimum of 10 kg and a maximum of 20 kg.
