Malawi Airlines was founded in 2013 and is Malawi's flag carrier. It is part owned by Ethiopian Airlines who provide aircraft for the fleet and offer support in all aspects of its operations. Check in rules

Malawian Airlines allows passengers can do a web check-in 24 hrs before departure. Then, you print your boarding pass and e-ticket using the simple process of Malawian Airlines. All domestic flights must have checked in at least 60 minutes before departure. At all airports, boarding ends 25 minutes before takeoff. Malawian Airlines requires all passengers to be present at the boarding gate by the time announced or specified at check-in time.

Baggage

The maximum weight limit per single baggage is 32 kg for business class and 23 kg for economy class on all flights across the Atlantic (outbound and return, as well as transfers). There is an equipment downgrade to a Q-400, particularly on our Johannesburg route. The free baggage allowance per passenger will be one piece of maximum of 30kgs. Additional baggage fees may apply in the event of a stopover on an international itinerary.

Unaccompanied minors

Unaccompanied minors between the ages of 5 to the end of 11 years will be accepted for transportation on domestic routes with a Company escort by paying one way of the adult fare for the company escort and service fee. Unaccompanied minors between the ages of 12 to 18 can travel without escort by filling the UM form and paying a service fee.

Infants

Infant, paying 10% of the applicable fare and not occupying seat is entitled to one checked bag (piece) weighing 10kgs,the sum of the 3 dimensions of which does not exceed 45 inches (115cms) plus one fully collapsible / pushchair, which may be carried in the passenger cabin subject to availability of space.

Pets

As defined in current passenger tariffs, pets (cats and dogs), when in a container and accompanied by a passenger or shipped as Cargo, may be carried in a cabin or baggage compartment. Guide dogs and blind and deaf that passengers depend on are transported free of charge on all Malawian flights and may also travel inside the cabin.
